Cotton Nook Panel Backpack

Get ready to turn Minki Kim’s latest Cotton Nook fabric panel into an adorable and functional backpack! The panel comes with 2 different patterns for 2 backpacks. One for the class and another for a future project! In this construction-focused class, we’ll take your prepped panel pieces and work through the steps to transform them into a finished 9" × 11" × 4" backpack. The Cotton Nook panel provides the coordinating pieces for the backpack, making this a fun way to practice bag-making techniques while showing off the sweet prints from the collection.

During class, we’ll focus on construction and assembly, including creating the front pocket, assembling and installing the zipper panel, joining the zipper and bottom sections, adding binding, working with D-rings and hardware, and constructing the adjustable webbing straps. We’ll then bring all of the components together to complete and finish your backpack.

Supplies (can be purchased at Woven!):
For 1 backpack, you will need:
- Cotton Nook Backpack Panel
- byAnnie's Soft & Stable - 1 yard (makes both backpacks)
- (2) 1" d-rings
- (2) 1" slider buckles
- (1-2) zipper pulls
- Continuous zipper roll
- 1" cotton webbing - 2 yards
- 1 1/8 yards lining
- 1/3 yard SF 101 fusible interfacing

Important: This is a construction class, so your panels must be fully prepped before arriving. Please have the required pieces cut, layered with foam stabilizer and lining, quilted (if desired), and trimmed according to the pattern instructions. Having this prep work completed ahead of time will allow us to spend class time concentrating on the more detailed bag-construction techniques and assembling your backpack.

This class is a great next step for sewists who are comfortable with basic sewing and want to build their bag-making skills while learning techniques that can be used in future projects. Come with your pieces ready to go, and leave with a charming Minki Kim Cotton Nook Panel Backpack you’ll be excited to use!
