Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP) Beginner Class

Ready to try foundation paper piecing but not sure where to begin? This approachable, skill-building class is designed especially for beginners who want to learn the fundamentals of FPP in a clear, stress-free way. Using the classic and versatile economy block, you’ll be guided step-by-step through the entire process while creating the block in two different sizes.

We’ll start by covering the essentials: how foundation paper piecing works, how to read and follow an FPP pattern, fabric placement tips, and the correct order of sewing and trimming. You’ll learn how to sew directly onto the paper, flip and press accurately, and trim for precise results, all while building confidence with this technique.

Throughout the class, we’ll focus on accuracy, troubleshooting common beginner mistakes, and tips for achieving sharp points and clean seams. You’ll also learn how to remove the paper foundations safely and discuss ways to use your finished economy blocks in quilts, pillows, bags, and other projects.

By the end of class, you’ll have two completed economy blocks in different sizes, a strong understanding of the FPP process, and the confidence to tackle future foundation paper piecing patterns on your own. Perfect for adventurous beginners or quilters looking to add a new technique to their skill set!

All materials for the class (including the machine!) will be provided. Just bring yourself! If you would like to bring in your own machine, please feel free to do so.

Also, if you would prefer to bring in your own scraps from home, you can! You will need a variety of pieces in widths of 2.5" through 5".
