Bagmaking Basics - Piecekeeper

Build on the foundational skills from Class 1 as we move into the next project in our Bagmaking Basics Series: the Piecekeeper Project Bag! This class introduces a new set of essential techniques while guiding you through the construction of a functional, beautifully finished zippered project bag. Perfect for storing quilting blocks, handwork, notions, or travel supplies, this bag gives you hands-on practice with more advanced materials and methods in a slow, confidence-building way.

In this session, you’ll learn how to quilt fabric with Soft and Stable for a sturdy, professional feel, create and attach bias binding, handle a longer handbag zipper, and work with lightweight mesh to form a front pocket that offers great visibility. You’ll construct a clean, bound edge, sew a structured handle, and assemble the full bag body using the techniques outlined in the pattern. Along the way, you’ll get comfortable managing layered materials, sewing smooth curves, and finishing edges neatly. These are skills that will serve you in every future bag you make.

Each class in this 4-part series gradually increases in complexity, and the Piecekeeper is the perfect next step. By the end of Class 2, you’ll have a polished, practical project bag and a stronger foundation for tackling the more advanced bags ahead.

All materials for the class (including the machine!) will be provided. Just bring yourself! If you would like to bring in your own machine, please feel free to do so.
