Beginner Quilting Series

Session 1: Building Blocks
Jump into the colorful world of quilting! In this first session, you’ll get comfortable with all the quilting essentials (materials, tools, and common terms), so you can start quilting with confidence. We’ll cover accurate measuring, cutting, and pressing techniques before diving into the fun part: piecing! You’ll learn how to use strip piecing to create classic nine-patch blocks, add perfectly “snowballed” corners, and make no-waste flying geese that come together into beautiful sawtooth star blocks. It’s a relaxed, hands-on class designed to set you up for quilting success, one stitch at a time!

Session 2: Bringing It All Together
Keep the momentum going as you build on the skills from Session 1! We’ll review the basics and move on to exciting new techniques like making eight-at-a-time half-square triangles, log cabin blocks, and pinwheel blocks. Then, you’ll piece all your finished blocks together to create your very first quilt top! This session is all about putting your new quilting knowledge to work and celebrating your progress with a beautiful finished project.

Optional Finishing Class: Finishing Touches
Ready to turn your quilt top into a finished masterpiece? This optional follow-up class focuses on all the steps that bring your quilt together beautifully! You’ll learn several basting methods, including glue basting, pin basting, and basting stitches, so your layers stay smooth and secure. Then we’ll dive into creating and attaching quilt binding, both by machine and by hand, for a polished edge you’ll be proud of. It’s a relaxed, confidence-building class that helps you complete your first quilt from start to finish, no loose threads left behind!

Note: The finishing class is NOT included in the 2-session series. You can sign up for the finishing class here.

All materials for the class (including the machine!) will be provided. Just bring yourself! If you would like to bring in your own machine, please feel free to do so. A handy student handout will also be provided for you to take home that will cover what was addressed in the class.
